Article 15 Review.. the eye opener and heart wrenching story that leaves you with a heavy heart..!!
The movie begins with the depiction of the bootlicking mentality of the All India Services. Except for this slightly light hearted scene in the initial couple of minutes, starts the harrowing trail of the tale of the three girls from the backward community. Two of the girls have been mercilessly murdered and hung by a tree to teach particular class of people a lesson!! The remainder of the story is Ayushman's character Ayan Ranjan fighting all odds, including his subordinates, seniors, society, girlfriend, politicians and even the villagers. The background score, the picturization, the camera angles, the lighting or the lack of it, is bound to send chills down your spine. This seemed like one real life horror story to me. A scene shows a man emerging from a manhole cover all drenched in sewage, after partially removing the blockades. However technologically advanced and forward we may claim to be, this is the harsh reality of the 21st century!! I don't know whether it was the particular print at that particular multiplex that was faulty, or was it just me who couldn't decipher the speedy accent of the language being spoken! Although this isn't a movie that will keep you constantly on the edge of your seats because of the suspense in the story, it will definitely spring up a surprise every now and then, adding a different twist to the story. The preconceived notions, the apathy and indifference, the bias, taken for granted superior feeling, has been nicely potrayed.
Ayushman Khurana as always, rocks with his upright character, fighting to know the the truth behind the ghastly incident, and trace the third girl. You just can't get enough of the Adhadhun, Vicky Donor, Bareilly ki Barfi, Shubangal Savdhan, Badhai Ho leading man. Manoj Pahwa plays corrupt minded and despicable junior spot on with his acting. Sayani Gupta as the desperate, representative activist cum lover of the rebel Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, leaves an indelible mark in your minds. Kumud Mishra plays the role of an officer who is torn between the system and his colleagues on one side, and superior Ayushman on the other. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as the brilliant kid turned rebel impresses us. Nasar is the CBI officer, who is out to crush the evidence and pack up the inquiry with his high handedness. There are barely any songs in the movie, except for the the introductory song which sets the tone for the story. The credit scores roll alongwith a rap song signalling the changes in society that are required. The director, writer and producer of this film Anubhav Sinha, completes the trio of uncharted territory with Ra.One, Mulk and ultimately article 15, and quite brilliantly at that. The dialogues pierce your heart through and through like an arrow .. "ye tin ladkiyaa 3 rupaye extra maang rahi thi. Ye mineral water jo aap pi rahe uske kuch boond jitni!" ( Loosely translates to : These three girls were demanding Rupees 3 extra, which amounts to a couple of drops of the distilled water that you are drinking right now).
A cruel mirror of the society, if this is what is indeed happening around, even if in selected areas of the country!
All said and done, after 70 years of independance and reservation, my personal opinion is that reservation should be on the basis on economical status!
